Alongside Formula E’s London race, we were delighted to also provide technical support for the post-race Gala Awards Dinner.
The Brief
Our brief was to provide a backdrop, with a full AV and lighting package for the high-profile event at London’s O2 Intercontinental.
Equipment Used
In front of a 30m LED starcloth backdrop, our video solution centred on a 10m x 3m LED screen, using our Unilumin UPAD IV 2.6mm LED system and controlled by Novastar 4K Processors.
Due to the size of the Peninsula Ballroom, we also supplied ten Panasonic TH-75SQE2W 75″ 4K LCD screens as relay around the perimeter.
As well as screens, we supplied Lenovo and Apple M3 12-Core MacBooks, and an iMac Quad-Core i7 5K to run video content from Formula E, controlled by a Barco E2 Gen and EC-30 switching system.
Lighting
Lighting must be dynamic to accompany such a prestigious event, and our design didn’t disappoint. We used Ayrton Diablo-S LED Profiles and Chauvet Ovation F-265WW LED Fresnels to light the stage.
Vibrant colour and effects came from Robe Robin 150 Beams placed on the truss and on stage. Such a glamorous event needed colour around the room too, and our Prolight SMARTBAT LED uplighters brightly lit the walls of the Ballroom.
Communications
As crew communications are so crucial to the running of any awards ceremony, we chose our Green-Go Wireless system for this role.
Audio
For audio, our d&b systems are superb in this scenario. We designed a system built from Y10P, Y7P, V7P, V-Subs, Y-Subs and T10 speakers, using D20 and D40 amplifiers to complete the perfect solution. For mics, we chose our Shure AD4Q Axient system with DPA 4366 headset mics and Audio Technica AT935 mics on the lectern, with a Yamaha QL1 mixing desk in control.
Music played a huge part in the celebrations too, with a live band, DJ, string quartet and string duo adding to the atmosphere. The musicians used our Shure AD4Q Axient system, with DPA 4099 microphones for the band.
Monitoring is crucial here, and we used a combination of Shure P9HW and Sennheiser G4 in-ear monitors. Stage wedges were d&b M4, powered by d&b D20 amplifiers. A Yamaha DM7 desk was the perfect choice for mixing.
For the DJ, we chose industry-standard CDJ 2000 DJ decks, with a DJM900 mixing desk.
Reception Area
The reception area also required a PA system for the string duo and atmospheric lighting to help welcome guests.
Our d&b T10 speakers were ideal for audio, with D20 amplifiers and a Yamaha DM3 desk in control. Our lighting provision came from Chauvet Freedom Par LED Uplighters and Chauvet Colorado Battens.
We were extremely proud to combine our race and gala dinner support to Formula E, and very much look forward to next year’s London race!
